Xenophon of Athens was a soldier in a military campaign in Persia over two thousand years ago that he recounted in Anabasis (“An Ascent”), also known as The Persian Expedition. He writes,

There is small risk a general will be regarded with contempt by those he leads, if, whatever he may have to preach, he shows himself best able to perform.

A thought for forthcoming Veterans Days.
